Alienation effect

The alienation effect, also known as the distancing effect or verfremdungseffekt, is a theatrical technique developed by playwright Bertolt Brecht that aims to prevent the audience from becoming emotionally absorbed in the narrative. Instead, it encourages critical detachment and reflection on the social and political themes presented in the performance, often achieved through techniques such as breaking the fourth wall, using narration, or incorporating multimedia elements.
